Since February 1973 Kockums has specialised in the building of steel bulk tankers including these for the transportation of dangerous goods.

Huge, mobile 120 cubic metre mobile silos were recently built by Kockums for Kalari to haul for Dyno Nobel, each holding up to 200 tonnes of explosive emulsion product. Once on site, the silo which is transported in an empty condition, is supported by landing legs that allow the silo to be set up in a perfectly horizontal position whilst also keeping the road wheels off the ground. The silo is fully automated to load and unload the contents to and from B-doubles and B-triples that work in conjunction with it.

A major benefit is that these silos can be hitched to any prime mover and moved as required to another site with a minimum of fuss - and requiring no cranage or other trailers. They can be used for many applications including construction and road manufacturing bulk storage of lime or cement.

The shell is made from HU300/1 boiler plate and an enclosure fixed to the trailer chassis houses monitoring devices for shell pressure and the contents therein. These electrics also include monitoring for improper hose connecting and an automatic isolating and shutdown system for incidents such as hose bursts.

The purpose-built, double-conical B-double and B-triple tankers have a 4 inch outlet for gravity or suction discharge and work in perfect conjunction with the 120 cubic metre silo.
